During the 2nd week of September, 2009, Safe Kids Wyoming with tremendous help from several partners focused our efforts for Child Passenger Safety Week on Booster Education. The law in Wyoming requires that all children under the age of 9 ride in the back seat of a vehicle and be in a proper child safety seat for their age and weight until the age of 9.
Intensive planning for this statewide event started this past June at the Chapter Coordinator’s Meeting in Douglas. From the ideas gathered from coordinators, the Safe Kids Wyoming Office kicked it in to high drive working with the Wyoming Seat Belt Coalition, Wyoming Department of Transportation and the Wyoming Highway Patrol in getting media and advertising developed and out to the public.
From 9-9-09 to 9-19-09, 14 chapters and both coalitions held Car Seat / Booster Check Up events across the state. 608 car seats were checked, 310 of which were boosters. 302 total car seats were distributed, 204 of them were booster seats. The boosters were donated by the Wyoming Seat Belt Coalition.
80 CPS Technicians and 115 volunteers gave their time and effort to help make this event so successful. The Wyoming Highway Patrol also was generous in giving their time of several of their Troopers to help us out as CPS Technicians and Senior Checkers.
