 Buckle Up Grant Information Minimize

This page is dedicated solely to the Safe Kids Buckle Up Grant. Hopefully, many of your questions can be answered here.

The Buckle Up Grant runs From July 1 to June 30 of the following year. It is broken down into 4 quarters: July 1 to September 30; October 1 to December 31; January 1 to March 31; April 1 to June 30.

Evaluations are completed quarterly. They are due to Safe Kids Wyoming by the 10th of the month following the end of the quarter: October 10, January 10, April 10 and July 10. Late evaluations may affect your continued insurance coverage. Please use the form to the left for your evaluation. All purplechecklists must be sent in to Safe Kids Wyoming by the 5th of the following month, monthly. Safe Kids Wyoming will forward on ALL completed purple checklist forms at the end of the quarter. Please note: There is a NEW Evaluation Form that can be complete on the computer and emailed. See forms to left.

Requirements of the grant: The Buckle Up Funds are to be used only for Child Passenger Safety events or In & Around Cars events. A technician needs to be present as well as a registered Senior Checker (See list below for current Sr. Checkers and location). Contact the state office if you have problems or questions regarding this requirement.

All seat checks for registered event must be done on the PURPLE (or GREEN for Spanish) checklist forms. No other checklists or copies will be accepted. If it is not a Buckle Up covered event DO NOT use the purple checklist forms. Use the generic form to the left.

It is also asked that one event is conducted per quarter. There are times when this may not be possible, but no more than one quarter should be without an event. Please contact Safe Kids Wyoming if there is going to be a quarter without an event so everyone is aware of the circumstances.

Event Registration: All events should be registered in order to be put on the Safe Kids WY website. All Buckle Up appropriate events will be registered with Safe Kids WW for liability insurance coverage and posting on the national website. Please register 20 days prior to the event with Safe Kids WY. The Event Registry Form is to the left.

Buckle Up Inspection Stations: NEW INFORMATION Safe Kids WW has changed it's restrictions on Buckle Up supported Inspection Stations. Now, any inspection station can be registered with Safe Kids WW to receive liability coverage. The only guidelines that must be met for this are that there needs to be 2 technicians working/inspecting the seats and one needs to be a registered Senior Checker (please see document outlining expectations/guidelines for Sr. Checkers to the left). This ensures that 2 sets of eyes have looked at each seat. They also must use the PURPLE checklist forms. All registered Inspection Stations will have to complete the Inspection Station portion of the quarterly evaluation.

Application: Due to the current climate of the economy, some changes are being made to the Buckle Up Grant. Applications for Fiscal Year 2011 are not yet available.  Please continue to check back as new information will be posted when it becomes available.
For now, here are some things to start considering for this application:

Set objectives: What, when, etc.

Know your community: Get stats for your community from Dept. of Health.

Coalition Capacity: This should line up with your objectives.

Community Outreach: Target high risk groups (know who they are).

Program Evaluation:

Budgeting: As of FY 2010, the Buckle Up Grant no longer has monetary funds available.  It is insurance and forms for events only.
